The BioLife Wicked Problems LiveCase creates a lively scenario in which to explore, examine and reflect on leadership and group dynamics under pressure. At BioLife, a leading-edge CRISPR (gene editing) biotech startup, a breakthrough anti-aging drug holds great promise for the company and its parent firm Pharma Solutions. However, as the launch of the drug, Xanformin, approaches, events at BioLife begin to spin out of control, centering around the controversial activities of the scientist who led the drug development. At the outset of the LiveCase, Learners are divided into two groups: the BioLife C-Suite executives, who grapple with events as they unfold, and the 'Observers' who maintain a watchful presence, assessing the actions and group dynamics of the C-Suite. In this way, the C-Suite executives experience the additional pressure of leadership 'under the microscope,' while the Observers must critically assess the performance of their colleagues as they work together to chart a course through uncertainty, chaos and conflict. The LiveCase combines immersive, interactive storytelling using the LiveCase web application with group activities, tasks and role plays to keep Learners engaged, challenged and entertained. For Educators, the story that unfolds combines with the C-Suite-Observers' dynamic to provide rich material for stimulating debrief sessions and an intense, memorable learning experience.
Particularly suited to MBA and executive learning programs, it can be conducted in person or online. BioLife was co-authored by INSEAD Affiliate Professor of Organizational Behavior Derek Deasy and INSEAD Adjunct Professor of Entrepreneurship Antoine Duvauchelle.
